Amy Davis (Won by TKO) vs. Denise Mellor

Amy Davis from Idaho Falls, ID fought a good fight against Denise Mellor of England. Both fighters came in strong. Denise took an elbow from Amy and Denise’s trainer made the decision to stop the fight giving Amy the win by TKO. Denise fought this bout with a knee injury she incurred during training, but still fought very well and gave it her all. This was a great fight with great technique and a good match. We look forward to seeing these two fighters again for a rematch in 2009.

Aaron Castellvi vs. Justin Greskiewicz (Won by Desion)

The bout between Aaron Castellvi and Justin Greskiewicz was the only fight that went the distance the whole night. This was a chest match between two fighters and they both brought a lot of great Muay Thai skills to the ring. There were great exchanges throughout all three rounds and Justin executed some great sweeps. The win was given to Justin Greskiewicz by decision.

Shane Wiggand (Won TKO) vs. Ali Tareh

Shane Wiggand and Ali Tareh brought a very unique fight to Shin Do Kumaté because Ali comes from a more Martial Arts background with the last few years competing in professional boxing matches. Shane has a Muay Thai background and although he originally fought MMA, his passion went towards Muay Thai and he spent some time training in Thailand. Round one started out with Ali leading using his boxing skills throughout the round and he took Shane down with a spinning back hand followed by a strong right punch, but Shane beat the count. In the second round Shane managed to close the gap and came in strong delivering a lot of hard and flying knees to the head. The referee stopped the fight due to a big gash above Ali’s eye giving Shane the win by TKO.

Simon Marcus (Won By TKO) vs. Aaron Meisner

Simon Marcus has a strong Muay Thai training regimen and we knew he was going to use every skill and technique he could against his opponent. Aaron Meisner has more of an MMA background than Muay Thai and was featured on the Ultimate Fighter reality series. Both fighters started strong, but Simon dominated the fight with his combination elbow strikes and finished the fight in the second round giving him the win by TKO, as Aaron was unable to continue. Both fighters demonstrated an exciting bout.

Clifton Brown (Won by TKO) vs. Stephen Richards

This main event featured Clifton Brown, a world champion from Toronto, Canada against Stephen Richards from Atlanta, Georgia. Clifton was originally matched to fight Tofan Pirani of Sweden, but Tofan contacted MKM 7 days before the fight stating he injured his shin during training. In a scramble to find Clifton a new opponent, Stephen Richards stepped up to the plate. Stephen is a very good Boxer and Muay Thai fighter and beat Sean Yarbrough of Las Vegas in a prior match. Both Clifton and Stephen came in strong and fought well against each other, but Clifton through his famous elbow strike that landed on the side of Stephen’s head causing a big cut on his ear, which ended the fight giving Clifton the win by first round TKO. Clifton Brown is a true Champion and Stephen Richards is a true warrior for taking this fight last minute and we look forward to seeing both fighters again in 2009.

Victor Kulykavaski vs. Adam Hilarie

Victor out of Ali Tareh’s Gym with UFS and Adam out of Real Cage Fighting school. This was Adam Hilaire’s first fight and you can tell Victor Kulykavaski came out of his corner with more comfort and confidence.  Victor took round 1 but then inrounds 2 and 3 Adam came around and dominated each of those rounds and coming out with the win by unanimous decision.

Avery Mcphatter vs. Andrew Lichaciovas

Avery out of XFC with John Prisco and Andrew out of Team Toro Muay Thai train with Ricardo Perez Avery great boxing.  Easily dictated the pace of first 2 rounds winning them both. However, his opponent came out and charged and pressed all the action in the 3rd round, but it was too little too late as a lot of damage had already been done and he would have needed a knockout to win it.  Avery Mcphatter fought with a smile on his face the whole time on his way to a unanimous decision.

David Hollister vs. Jessy Cross

David Hollister Out of Master Mehrdad’s Muay Thai gym and Jessy Cross out of Real cage Fighting gym. Real fast paced fight right off the bat.  Dave was able to land big punches, knees and hurt his opponent badly.  Dave landed a huge upper cut with hard knee that knocked his opponent down and then landed another strong upper cut that knocked his opponent out in less than one minute into the first round.

Ryan Jury vs. Joe Smith

Ryan Jury trains out of USA Muay Thai with Stefan ButinBik and Joe Smith trains out of UFS with Ali Tareh’s Gym. Both of these fighter where first time stepping into the ring and they show their heart all the way, but at the end Joe Smith from UFS come out victory by desion.

Ron Cranker vs. Brandon Pressnell

Ron Cranker out of XFC and Brandon Pressnell Real Cage Fighting. Ron came out with all the energy and was definitely pressing all the action.  It turned into a blood and guts type fight as neither fighter would let down.  The referee stopped the fight twice because of what seemed to be a shoulder injury on Brandon Pressnel; however, he shook the doctors off twice and continued to fight.  Pressnel through his opponent to the ground in the 3rd round and Ron Cranker was just out of gas and couldn’t continue the fight giving Brandon a gutsy win by TKO.

Tyler Gershowitz vs. Nathan Hile

Tyler Gershowitz trains under Master Mehrdad and Nathan Hile trains under Stefan ButinBik.  Super fast paced fight.  Both fighters taking big risks throughout the entire fight.  Fight went to a split decision giving the win to Nathan Hile.  This is one bout we would all like to see rematched.  Great non-stop action.

Desiree Samson vs. Amy Smith

Desiree Samson trains under Master Mehrdad and Amy Smith from Chicago

Desiree from the opening bell stomped on the gas pedal and dished out an unrelenting offense that her opponent was not fit to handle.  Desiree knocked her opponent down a couple times by both punches and a knee strike to her opponent which ultimately ended the fight as Amy Smith couldn’t get up from that strike.  Desire won by KO. And gain the WSDKA amateur middle weight title

Curtis Boshears vs Antonio Alicea

Curtis Boshears trains under Gary Swanson and travelled from Michigan for this fight.  Antonio Alicea trains under Ali of UFS in St. Petersburg.  Curtis landed a lot of knees to Antonio’s in the left thigh in the first round and going into the final two rounds it was evident those knee strikes left him hurt with the inability to access his normal fighting style.  Antonio had to fight defensively and wound up losing a very hard fought decision.

Federico Dimante vs Juan Olmos

Federico Dimante trains under Master Mehrdad and Juan Olmos trains under Gary Swanson out of Michigan.  This fight was the quickest fight of the night after Juan Olmos landed a right straight to the jaw of Federico, which floored his opponent and in his attempt to stand up lost his balance and fell into the ropes.  The referee had to stop the fight immediately.  This was a one punch knockout.

Aaron Estes vs. Mohamed Fikry

Aaron Estes trains under Master Mehrdad and Mohammed Fikry trains out Ali and UFS in St. Petersburg.  Fikry had an extremely unorthodox style of fighting.  It completely kept Aaron Estes off balance and he was able to land strikes from all different angles.  Aaron Estes showed tremendous heart and landed some good punches, but Fikry fought an excellent fight and was able to withstand any offense his opponent threw at him.  This bout went to decision which Fikry won unanimously.

Dustin Robbins vs Malick Watson Smith

Dustin Robbins trains out of Crystal River, Florida under Stefan ButinBik and Malik Smith trains out of Chicago under Ricardo Perez.  This was definitely the bloodiest fight of the night.  Dustin’s nose was bleeding after the first round.  Malick used amazing Muay Thai techniques to execute multiple strikes all over his opponent.  Bloodied Dustin continued to press forward and challenge Malick but it wasn’t enough.  Malick won the fight by decision and gain the WSDKA amateur lightweight title.  This was a great final bout and brought the crowd to their feet throughout the whole bout.

Moayedi sisters fight for family name

Shahnaz Moayedi, Her Dad from the right Master Mehrdad and Kim Bright CEO of Sweet Wheat from the left lead sponsor

Female Muay Thai Fighter

Master Mehrdad's Muay Thai Classic XXIV - 2010

St. Petersburg, Fla. — Soudabah Moayedi always
knew she wanted to be like her dad, Master
Mehridad Moayedi.

“He says when he put me in the crib to sleep and he
would go in to work out, I would crawl out of the
crib and he’d find me punching the walls,”
Soudabah said.

Now instead of punching walls, she’s beating up on
any and all compeition in the light heavyweight
division of Shin Do Kumate, which is a version of
Muay Thai martial arts.

Master Mehridad created the Shin Do style and is passing along his knowledge to his daughters, 17-
year-old Soudabah and 15-year-old Shahnaz. “When you get asked about (learning from dad), you
do take a step back and you look at everything he has accomplished,” Shahnaz said. “We do. We follow

his footsteps.” “You know you’ve trained with the best,” Soudabah
said. “No one can ever say you didn’t train with a
good master.” Shahnaz says she wants to pursue a professional
career.  Soudabah is taking the wait and see
approach. Regardless, the sisters are making their dad proud
by dominating the fighting style he made famous.

My name is Soudabah Moayedi and for over 13 years I’ve been training and fighting in the art of Muay Thai as well as traditional martial art training under my father Master Mehrdad. With an amateur record of 12-3 and current holder of the 2007 Master Mehrdad Muay Thai Classic Lightweight Champion. I was constantly looking for supplements that would give me energy; since my family is also very health conscious we wanted something natural that would be good for us. I take Sweet Wheat every morning and for the rest of the day I have the energy I need. It gives me my full energy potential in the gym too where I need it the most when I’m training for a fight. Before I was able to do five rounds on the bags then two sparring then two more on Thai pads or focus mitts. But I would be huffing and puffing and wouldn’t be able to go at it to my fullest potential, just enough to get me through it and I didn’t want that. I wanted to go through the rounds and not feel like I was dying afterwards. With Sweet Wheat I’m able to do all that and still have some energy left over. Sweet Wheat not only has given me more energy but it’s also made my muscles more toned and defined. I have Sweet Wheat to thank for my focus and new found energy and would recommend it to anyone.

Travelle Mason – Light Heavyweight (2009) IKF and (2007 & 2008) Master Mehrdad’s Muay Thai ClassicI Champion.

I am an athlete and train 6 days a week as a Muay Thai fighter, and I feel it’s important to provide my body with the best quality foods and supplements.  I wake up in the morning and start my day off with a prayer, a multi-vitamin and a teaspoon of Sweet Wheat to fuel me for my 6 mile run.  Since starting Sweet Wheat, I have noticed my energy level go up and my timing has improved significantly.  I take the powder and its easily dissolvable.  My preference is taking it with grape juice and my body absorbs it right away.  I definitely recommend this product to athletes, and especially to those who don’t get enough vitamins and minerals in their body by food alone.

August 2010 Issue – Zebra Mats E-Newsletter

Master Mehrdad Promotes a New Mixed Martial Art

Master Mehrdad Moayedi operates a highly successful martial arts and Muay Thai training center in Tampa Bay, Florida where he teaches more than 150 students.  He discovered a lifelong passion for martial arts very early in life.  As a three year old in Iran, he first practiced Judo.  He soon started wrestling and was a five-time champion in his home country.

Throughout his extensive career, he has trained in Kung-Fu, Tae Keuk Do, Hapkido, Muay Thai and Persian Kushti Kaj, earning black belt ranks in several of these arts.  He is an 8th degree black belt in Hapkido and the Heavyweight Title Holder of Shin Do Kumaté.  One of his opponents in his fighting career includes Rick “The Jet” Roufus, 6 time world champion.

After the revolution in Iran, he travelled the world and lived in India, Pakistan, Tibet, Holland, and Canada.  He eventually moved to Tampa Bay and opened the first Muay Thai School in the Florida back in 1992.

Master Mehrdad found that the politics of martial arts negatively affected these great sports.  He wanted to work with others who were interested in highlighting the best aspects of martial arts training and professional competition.  “I saw the amount of effort and work these athletes were investing in their training and for events.  Their fighting spirit was amazing and I wanted to provide a stage to showcase their skills and talents.  I also saw that female fighters were taken advantage of in the industry and fighting without pads while not getting paid a fight purse, so as a father of two female fighters I took a stand for them and took female fighters pro and provided them with fight purses and title fights,” he said.

Master Mehrdad figured fans would come to see events with rules that called for more fast paced fights and much more explosive techniques.  He was fascinated by the early stage Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) from early 90s because they brought traditional artists using different skills and multiple styles, but with the turn of ownership felt that it lacked the honor, skill, and technique that he once admired.  As a traditional martial artist, he felt that stand up striking arts were more explosive and exciting to watch.  He developed a striking style called Shin Do Kumaté, and launched his own company bearing his initials, MKM Knockout Promotions, LLC, to promote professional bouts.  His company titled World Shin Do Kumaté Association, Inc. produces a series of amateur events to promote and build new athletes since fighters begin training at such an early age.

Shin Do Kumaté allows explosive elbow strikes, knees, kicks to entire body, throws and sweeps but does not include ground grappling.  Instead it allows for stand up wrestling and Muay Thai clinches.  Events are contested in a ring and fighters wear standard boxing gloves.  His company has copyrighted the rules and registered their intellectual property. Shin Do Kumaté features professional male and female fighters from around the world and the events are broadcast via television networks worldwide.

In 2002, he was the first promoter/fighter to produce a professional Muay Thai event in the state of Florida.  Since that time, he has produced fifteen very successful professional shows for television and since 1995 he has produced the Master Mehrdad Muay Thai Classic events for amateur kickboxers.

Master Mehrdad differentiates his events by matching the toughest, most exciting fighters against each other ensuring that the level of entertainment is always high.  Because his shows are well attended, he has attracted several sponsors and has now partnered with a casino agency to produce casino shows for television worldwide.

He is capitalizing on the popularity of the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC).  “The UFC paved the road and created a platform for Shin Do Kumaté,” he noted.  “Boxing has been around for more than a hundred years but it is dying due to not producing athletes like Mohammad Ali.  While many corporations are reluctant to be involved with the UFC because of the violence in the cage, our events offer an exciting alternative.  Great entertainment combined with highly skilled and quality athletes who tap into the honor and tradition of the sport,” he commented.

His approach has worked well.  Since 2002, his professional league was broadcast on Time Warner, Fox, ESPN, and other pay-per-view outlets.  His audience is made up of 12-57 year olds and he’s even been able to attract large numbers of women.

Master Mehrdad’s partnership with Zebra has been very beneficial.  “I really respect Zebra as a company.  Their products are the best quality and they do everything they can to service our gym and our promotions company,” he commented.  “We use Zebra’s full line of equipment and we’re proud to endorse the brand.”

Master Mehrdad discovered along the way, that not all organizations were excited about his events.  “The state boxing commission was a real challenge for us.  All they cared about were the fees they felt they were entitled to.  We needed their sanction to hold professional shows but Muay Thai should be governed by a Muay Thai-specific organization,” he stated.  He’s even considered launching a national governing body to help organize the sport in the U.S.

Always striving to improve, Master Mehrdad has set some ambitious goals for his business.  “I’d like to bring in TV partnerships and bigger, stronger sponsors.  I’m very selective, however, in the companies we choose.  They have to be a good fit and they must be interested to grow their brand globally,” he mentioned.

As it stands, ESPN will be airing several Shin Do Kumaté events internationally, and Strykerz TV will be streaming them via the Internet.  Master Mehrdad also hosts a weekly TV show in the U.S. and Canada.

“I really enjoy the marketing, public relations, and the entertainment side of this industry.  Finding the right athletes and pairing them in exciting fights is also a thrill.  I’m very interested in the personal stories of the athletes who compete and to see how their discipline carries into their personal lives,” he commented.  Master Mehrdad is also an accomplished social networker, leveraging Facebook and YouTube whenever possible.

If you’re in the Tampa Bay area, be sure to drop by his training center and checkout the programs he offers.  The Dojang website is:  http://www.mastermehrdad.com.  To learn more about exciting Shin Do Kumaté events, visit the website at:  http://www.shindoKumaté.com
